Serena and Safina Qualify for Doha Tournament

Sept. 24 -- Top-ranked Dinara Safina and Serena Williams have qualified for the season-ending final event of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour hosted by Qatar.

Serena is the winner of 12 Sony Ericsson WTA Tour singles titles and is set to pass the $9 million mark in career earnings this year. She enjoyed a spectacular 2009 season, having won two Grand Slam singles titles.

The Sony Ericsson Championships - Doha 2009 is the final event in the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour, in which only the very best players in the world participate. Since 2008, Doha has hosted the event, which it is scheduled to do until 2010. Istanbul, Turkey is ready to host the event from 2011 - 2013.
