Foot Injury Takes Serena Out of NY Tennis Exhibition
July 11 -- Although she showed up at the Glens Falls Civic Center in New York for an exhibition match against former top-ranked Martina Hingis, saying she cut her foot a few days ago, 2010 Wimbledon champion Serena Williams will not play, due to a cut on her foot.
Williams, who won her fourth Wimbledon crown last Saturday, lost an exhibition match to Belgian Kim Clijsters in straight sets — 6-3, 6-2 — on Thursday before hopping on a trans-Atlantic flight to New York and Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury, NY.
This is Williams fifth year playing World TeamTennis, a summer pro league that Williams said she looks forward to each year after Wimbledon, allowing her to visit cities and meet people she wouldn’t otherwise see.
Some fans — who paid from $29 to $75 to watch her play —asked for their money back. Overall, though, most people were glad just to see high-caliber tennis, with or without Williams.
Serena Williams DVDs carries complete match DVDs, such as the one with her runaway win against Dinara Safina in the 2009 Australian Open tournament, or the emotional victory over sister Venus in the 2003 Australian Open, as well as other major titles.
