Serena On Hold for Australian Open?

Oct. 11 -- WTA #1 ranked Serena Williams' participation in January's Australian Open could be left undecided until late this year as the probe into her angry tirade at the US Open continues.

WTA CEO Stacey Allaster said during a visit to the China Open that the result of an International Tennis Federation probe of the incident was likely to be known in the coming months.

Williams drew a record $11,000 fine as she verbally attacked a line judge after a foot fault was called at match point in her semi-final loss against Kim Clijsters. Video footage appeared to show Serena threatening the official, a situation classified as "major" by tennis authorities, and she could face bans from one or more of the four majors.
