Serena Replaces Safina as WTA #1
Oct. 6 -- Dinara Safina has lost the first spot in the WTA rankings to Serena Williams, to be confirmed when the official rankings are published next week on Monday, Oct. 12.
After the Russian's loss to wild card Zhang Shuai at the China Open, Serena only needed to make it beyond the second round in the same tournament to return to the top spot. She faced another Russian, Ekaterina Makarova, and took a two set win, 6-3, 6-2.
Serena, the reigning Australian Open and Wimbledon singles champion, has won 23 Grand Slams, and has been the world #1 on four different occasions.
Dinara Safina got to the top spot in the WTA rankings on April 20, 2009. Together with her elder brother Marat, they form the first brother-sister tandem in tennis history to both achieve World No. 1 rankings.
Serena Williams DVDs carries complete match DVDs, such as the one with her runaway win against Dinara Safina in the 2009 Australian Open tournament, or the emotional victory over sister Venus in the 2003 Australian Open, as well as other major titles.
